Transfer of Graduate Credit
Graduate students are strongly encouraged to apply for transfer credit during their first semester of matriculation at Lehman College. The Graduate Transfer Credit application is available from the Office of Graduate Studies.
All transfer credits must be approved by both the graduate program advisor or department chair and the Office of Graduate Studies and must meet the program and curriculum requirements of the student's degree.
Eligible Courses for Transfer
• Up to 12 credits of graduate courses taken at other accredited institutions prior to earning a degree.
• Up to 12 credits of graduate coursework completed at Lehman College as a non-degree or approved student.
• Up to 6 credits of graduate coursework applied toward a previously awarded and accredited graduate degree.
General Transfer Credit Guidelines
• A maximum of 12 transfer credits may be applied toward a Lehman master’s degree.
• Courses must be graduate-level and completed at an accredited institution authorized to grant master’s degrees.
• A grade of B or better is required for all transfer courses taken outside Lehman College.
• Capstone experiences (e.g., theses, internships, practicums, student teaching) are not eligible for transfer credit.
• If a student has earned more than 12 credits prior to matriculation, priority will be given to Lehman College courses that meet transfer requirements.
• Transfer credit cannot be evaluated or awarded until the student has matriculated into a graduate program at Lehman.
Advanced Certificate or Extension Programs
Transfer of credit into or from an advanced certificate or extension program is subject to:
• Approval by the graduate advisor and the Office of Graduate Studies.
• Compliance with the program’s curriculum requirements.
• Adherence to Lehman College’s Residency Requirement.
Additional limitations:
• Only graduate-level courses from accredited institutions are eligible.
• A grade of B or better is required for all non-Lehman courses.
